Advanced Cardiac Life Support Course - BIHC

March 16, 2025

Congratulations to the successful participants of the Advanced Cardiac Life Support course recently hosted by Bow Island Health Centre.  This course helps prepare health care professionals to deal with cardiac (heart-related) emergencies by providing an opportunity to work with the equipment in a scenario-based learning atmosphere.  This course is intensive, requires updating every two years, and is especially important in rural sites where the opportunity to deal with such emergencies is less frequent than in the city hospitals.  The more practice, the more efficient and comfortable staff will be when presented with a situation in real life!

The Health Foundation was instrumental in ensuring the availability of this course locally by providing funding for the equipment (arrhythmia simulator, airway trainer, textbooks, and CPR equipment).

Comments from participants inlcude:

“Thanks so much for the ACLS Course.  We used our knowledge and skills today when we had to use one of the treatment algorithms.  The locum doctor sure smiled when we told him we had just updated our course. . . Feel free to share this with the Foundation as they gave us the opportunity to have learned from great ACLS Instructors.”

"I want to extend a heartfelt thank-you on behalf of the nursing staff for the consideration you showed in helping us out with our ACLS course. With this course, we are able to provide safe patient care and reach our educational goals! You guys are amazing!"
