The Foundation is very grateful to publicly acknowledge everyone who supports us in any way – working together to enhance health care!

Donor Recognition Wall

The Donor Recognition Wall for the Bow Island & District Health Foundation was unveiled on April 6, 2000 as a way to recognize the generous financial support of individuals and community partners. The Donor Recognition Wall was made possible by a generous donation by Evelyn Halpin Hergott in memory of Laurence C. Halpin.
The purpose of the donor wall is to acknowledge gifts both from individuals and community partners. Since the Foundation was incorporated in 1996, only the donations received since then are acknowledged on the wall. All gifts are cumulative, allowing donors to move up to higher categories.
Recognition categories are as follows:
- In Memory
- Cumulative donations totaling $2000 and more are eligible for a plaque inscribed with the name of the deceased individual on the donor wall
- If the total donations are less than $2000, the name of the deceased individual is recorded in the book of donations.
- Friend
- All donations under $2000 are recorded in a book of donations beside the donor wall. Amounts are not listed.
- Bronze Patron
- Cumulative donations between $2000 and $4,999 are eligible for an engraved plaque on the donor wall.
- Silver Patron
- Cumulative donations between $5000 and $9,999 are eligible for an engraved plaque on the donor wall.
- Gold Patron
- Cumulative donations between $10,000 and $50,000 are eligible for an engraved plaque on the donor wall.
- Platinum Patron

Donations come in many forms!
- Monetary donations designated to a specific project or greatest needs, a donation as a living tribute or in memory of a loved one, every donation – regardless of the size each donation is appreciated and will go to support the designated category of your choice.
- Donation of volunteer time to support Foundation Events and Activities. As well as the Foundation Trustees who donate freely of their time for monthly meetings and other projects, there are many individuals who volunteer their time to assist with fundraising events such as the annual garage sale, gaming events such as a casino, or planting the flower beds of the Hospital Garden!
- Donation of goods or services, such as items for raffles, use of vehicles, tables, trucks & trailers, storage units, garbage bins or equipment to support specific fundraisers.
The Bow Island & District Health Foundation is very fortunate to receive tremendous community support and for that we are eternally grateful. We can honestly say that we are:
“Working Together . . . . To Enhance Health Care!”
Auxiliary to the Bow Island Health Centre
The Bow Island & District Health Foundation is proud to recognize the significant contribution of the Hospital Auxiliary to Bow Island Health Centre and its ongoing partnership with the Health Foundation since the Foundation was formed in 1996.
Their Motto:
“Together We Can Make Health Happen!”
On April 22, 1959, twenty individuals met at the Community Hall in Bow Island to discuss the formation of an organization to support the newly opened Bow Island General Hospital. That became the inaugural meeting of the “Auxiliary to the Bow Island General Hospital.” Seventeen of those present paid the $2.00/year annual membership fee to join the organization.
The stated goals of the organization were as follows:
- To provide assistance, comfort and care to patients and residents of Bow Island Health Centre which includes Alfred Egan Home (AEH) as well.
- Assist in bringing greater community awareness and understanding to the BIHC through public relations and understanding
- RAISE FUNDS FOR BIHC
- To assist both physically and financially, other projects and items outside the BIHC, if approved by the majority of membership.
This organization, now known as the Auxiliary to the “Bow Island Health Centre”, has been supporting the hospital for the past 65 years through the following programs:
- Medical Transport started in March 1991. This program has volunteer drivers taking clients from the community to medical appointments. The Health Foundation gives an annual grant to support this service. The current Coordinator for this service is Michelle Lynn
- Christmas Gifting
- Home made Christmas cookies, chocolate, candy canes and Christmas oranges are distributed to widows, shut-ins, doctors, AEH, Hospital side, extended care and the residents in the basement at Pleasant View Lodge
- Poinsettias are distributed to hospital departments - Kitchen; Admitting; AEH; and BI Medical Clinic
- Monthly Birthday Celebrations are hosted in Extended care and AEH providing cake and ice cream
- Fundraising – Since the formation of the Health Foundation in 1996, these funds are donated to the Health Foundation and designated to specific projects as decided by the Hospital Auxiliary membership
- These fundraising efforts have provided funding for the purchase of 2 recliners, a life-like baby doll and support of many programs on Continuing Care. The current fundraiser is aimed towards refurbishing the resident lounge (fondly known as “The Bistro”) on Continuing Care.
- The major annual fundraiser is the sale of meat pies every Autumn
- The Tuck Cupboard located in the Hospital atrium, showcases items such as knitted or crocheted slippers, blankets, wash clothes and dolls which have been hand-crafted by the members
- Licensed raffles are also conducted when the opportunity arises.
Currently the fourteen members and three group members have volunteered over 600 hours in the past fiscal year (2023). The group meets seven times/year at the Pleasant View Manor (third Tuesday of March, May, June, September, November and December at 1:30).
